2 to 8 March 2014

The round-up for 2 to 8 March 2014.

There are no beatifications scheduled for this week.

Sunday 2 March, in 1697 in Florida, the deaths of a Franciscan priest and a Native American layman, even their names unrecorded, believed to have been martyred.  I am not aware of a cause for their canonization.

Monday 3 March, the feast of S Katharine Drexel.  A sister and foundress from Pennsylvania, she was canonized in 2000.

Also 3 March, of interest to the Breton, the memorial of Bl Pierre-Rene Rogue.  A Vincentian priest, he served as a priest in the underground during the Revolution, eventually being martyred for it in 1796.  He was beatified in 1934.

Also 3 March, of interest in Mexico, the repose of the Venerable Servant of God Maria Concepcion Cabrera Arias de Armida.

Also 3 March, the feast of S Cunigunde of Luxembourg, wife of S Henry.  She was canonized in 1200.

Tuesday 4 March, in 1998 in Wisconsin, the repose of Alfred Kunz.  A priest, his murder remains unsolved and there are those who believe he was a ritual sacrifice.

Also 4 March, of interest to the Breton, the memorial of Bl Mere Saint-Louis, a Parisian noblewoman widowed by the Revolution who moved to Brittany and became a religious after the Terror died down.  She was beatified in 2012.

Also 4 March, also of interest to the Breton, the repose in 1941 of Marie-Julie Jahenny.  A Third Order Franciscan, stigmatist and mystic, her cause has not yet been opened but is being explored.

Wednesday 5 March, of interest to the Orthodox, the repose of S Nicholas Velimirovic.  Though that does not seem to be his main feast in America, it is one in Serbia.

Thursday 6 March, I have nothing.

Friday 7 March, in 1987 in Buffalo, the murder of David P. Herlihy.  A secular priest, he was also killed in what was thought to be a robbery gone bad by the same people who killed Fr Bissonette.

Also 7 February, of interest in Argentina, the repose of the Venerable Servant of God Maria Antonia de Paz y Figueroa.

Also 7 February, of interest in Cuba, the memorial of Bl Jose Olallo Valdes.

Saturday 8 March, I have nothing.

S Katharine Drexel, ora pro nobis.

S Cunigunde, ora pro nobis.

All the saints, orate pro nobis.

All the martyrs, orate pro nobis.
