Tuesday 5 August, of particular interest in Canada, the memorial of Bl Frederic Janssoone.
Wednesday 6 August, in 1726 in Mexico City, the repose of the Venerable Servant of God Antonio of Jesus, better known as Margil Ros. A Franciscan priest, he is best known for his labors as a missionary in Mexico and the current United States. He was declared Venerable in 1836 though progress on his cause since has been slow.
Also 6 August, of particular interest in Ecuador, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Gabriel Garcia Moreno.
Also 6 August, of particular interest in Uruguay, the memorial of Bl Anna Maria Rubatto.
Thursday 7 August, in 2004 in New Jersey, the repose of the Servant of God Maria Esperanza Medrano Parra de Bianchini. A Marian visionary from Venezuela, her cause was opened in 2010.
Also 7 August, in 1962 in Bolivia, the repose of William Carl Kruegler. A Maryknoll priest from New York, he was shot by a barkeeper angered that he was teaching the youth to stay away from alcohol. I am not aware of a cause for his canonization.
Also 7 August, of particular interest to the Breton, the memorial of Bl Cassien de Nantes. A Capuchin, he was martyred alongside Bl Agathange Noury in Ethiopia in 1638. He was beatified in 1905.
Also 7 August, also of interest to the Breton, the repose in 1323 of Hervaeus Natalis. A Dominican priest and philosopher, he served as the fourteenth Master of the Dominican Order, to my knowledge the only Breton so far to serve in that role. I am not aware of a cause for his canonization.
Also 7 August, of interest to the Orthodox, the feast (in Russia) of S Alexander Hltovitzky along with fellow martyrs of the Bolsheviks.
Also 7 August, of particular interest in Ecuador and Peru, the repose of the Venerable Servant of God Pedro de Urraca Garcia.
Friday 8 August, of particular interest in Australia, the feast of S Maria Ellen MacKillop.
Saturday 9 August, in 1718 in Alabama, the martyrdom of Jean Daniel Testu. A Canadian priest with the Seminary of Quebec, his existence is uncertain but, if the records are true, he and his party were ambushed and killed while he was serving among the Native Americans. I am not aware of a cause for his canonization.
Also 9 August, in 2012, the repose of Ralph W. Beiting. A priest, he is best known for founding the Christian Appalachian Project, serving the poor in one of the poorest and least Catholic areas of the country. I am not aware of moves for a cause for his canonization.
Also 9 August, of interest in Colombia, the memorial of the Bb Luis Ayala Nino, Ruben de Jesus Lopez Aguilar, Jose Velazquez Pelaez, Alfonso Antonio Ramirez Salazar, Gabriel Maya Gutierrez, Ramon Ramirez Zuluoga, and Luis Modesto Paez Perdomo. Hospitaller of Saint John of God Martyrs in Spain, they were born in Colombia.
